I'll have to check on that. The monocoque still looks like it's in one piece. I suspect that in the event of a huge impact, even if the monocoque is intact, they'll discard it as a precautionary measure; there could be damage to the carbonfibre weave which isn't visible.
I think you may be underestimating the damage to the car, Gordon. To my admittedly untrained eye, it would appear that he "made shit of it." Though as I said, that's very much the view of a casual observer.
Actually, looking at the final photo again, you can see Kubica's feet, which means that the monocoque itself was damaged, so it would indeed be a write-off.
