Golf bags and nuclear reactors

It is a fact rarely recognised, but indubitably true that golf bags share some remarkable design reciprocities with nuclear reactors.

Modern golf clubs tend to be carbon or boron-shafted, and these materials have exactly the neutron-absorbing capabilities which oblige the designers of nuclear reactors to chose them as the material for the reactor control rods. Just as a golfer raises or lowers a club into or out of the golf bag, so the control rods are raised or lowered to control the temperature of a nuclear reactor.

One suspects that nuclear physicists could learn a thing or two from the Callaway engineers...
