John Baez has written another nice piece on the Standard Model of particle physics, and its possible connection to triality, the octonions, and the exceptional Lie groups. Baez refers in his article to the ideas of Garrett Lisi, who he describes as "a cool dude who likes to ponder physics while living a low-budget, high-fun lifestyle: hanging out in Hawaii, surfing, and stuff like that."
